July Assignment Meetup — Perspective

  • Third Place Coffee Shop 1811 Glenwood Avenue Raleigh, NC, 27608 United States (map)

Join Oak City Clicks for our July Assignment Meetup as we explore one of photography’s most creative tools: perspective.

This month’s lesson focuses on how shooting angle, camera position, and lens choice can dramatically change the feel and storytelling of an image. Even a small change in perspective can transform an ordinary subject into something visually striking.

Together, we’ll discuss concepts including:

  • High and low shooting angles

  • Foreground and background relationships

  • Lens compression and distortion

  • Wide-angle vs. telephoto storytelling

  • Creating depth and scale within an image

We’ll review the month’s assignment, share creative ideas, and discuss how perspective influences mood, emotion, and visual impact in photography.

Members are encouraged to bring their cameras and participate in conversation about:

  • Favorite lenses and focal lengths

  • Creative challenges while shooting

  • Camera settings and composition questions

  • Photography goals and inspiration

As a group, we’ll also select a mid-month workshop meetup location where members can practice the assignment together while socializing and exploring Raleigh through photography.

Assignment submissions for Perspective are due by Monday, July 27 for Members’ Choice voting. The winning image will be announced during the August Assignment Meetup.

Whether you’re experimenting with your first interchangeable lens camera or refining your creative eye, these meetups are designed to help photographers grow through hands-on learning, community, and shared experience.
