Join Oak City Clicks for our June Assignment Meetup and the official launch of this season’s first photography challenge: Framing the Scene.
These monthly gatherings combine photography education, creative discussion, and social connection in a relaxed coffee shop setting. Each meetup introduces a new photography concept and assignment while giving members an opportunity to learn from one another, ask questions, and explore their cameras in a supportive environment.
This month’s lesson focuses on composition and visual storytelling, including concepts like:
Rule of thirds
Leading lines
Symmetry and balance
Natural framing
Simplifying the image
We’ll discuss how thoughtful composition can strengthen photographs regardless of subject matter or camera type, then review the assignment and brainstorm creative approaches as a group.
Members are encouraged to bring their cameras and share:
Photography goals and interests
Camera settings questions
Favorite subjects to photograph
Challenges they’ve encountered while shooting
Together, we’ll also plan a mid-month workshop meetup inspired by the assignment theme, selecting a time and Raleigh-area location where members can practice photographing together and socialize outside the classroom setting.
Assignment submissions for Framing the Scene are due by July 6 for Members’ Choice voting. The winning image will be announced during the July Assignment Meetup.
Whether you’re learning photography for the first time or refining your creative eye, these meetups are designed to help photographers grow through hands-on practice, shared experience, and community.
