Join Oak City Clicks for our September Assignment Meetup as we explore motion, movement, and shutter speed photography.
This month’s lesson focuses on shutter priority mode and how photographers use shutter speed to either freeze fast-moving action or intentionally blur motion for creative effect. From sports and street photography to waterfalls and light trails, shutter speed dramatically changes how movement appears in a photograph.
Together, we’ll discuss concepts including:
Fast vs. slow shutter speeds
Freezing action
Motion blur and long exposure effects
Panning techniques
Stability and camera movement
We’ll review the month’s assignment and explore how motion can add energy, atmosphere, and storytelling to an image.
Members are encouraged to bring their cameras and participate in discussion about:
Action and movement photography
Camera settings and exposure questions
Creative shooting challenges
Favorite techniques and subjects to photograph
As a group, we’ll also plan a mid-month workshop meetup where members can practice photographing movement together while exploring Raleigh through a creative and social photography outing.
Assignment submissions for Motion are due by Monday, September 28 for Members’ Choice voting. The winning image will be announced during the October Assignment Meetup.
Whether you’re experimenting with shutter priority mode for the first time or refining your ability to capture movement creatively, these meetups are designed to help photographers grow through hands-on learning, shared experience, and community.
